Inclusive Psychological Assessment and Support

Services & Fees

Inclusive Psychological Services.

All services are community-based, which means they are provided in your home, school, or any other preferred place.

neurodevelopmental assessment

Assessment for neurodevelopmental concerns, including Autism, ADHD, and intellectual disability. This type of assessment can be helpful if there are concerns regarding social, emotional, language, intellectual, adaptive, academic, and/ or behavioral development. Sensory sensitives are also a common part of this assessment process. Because development is a complex process, a psychological assessment for any emotional and behavioral concerns is also included.

Fee: $2000 (see payment information below)

psychological assessment

This type of assessment is for neurodivergent individuals with mental health concerns that may have emotional and/or behavioral components. Specific and sensitive consideration is given for developmental level and symptom presentation in neurodivergent individuals as many standardized psychological tests were developed for neurotypical individuals and often inaccurately diagnose neurodivergent individuals with mental health disorders.

Fee: $1700 (see payment information below)

CUSTOMIZED ASSESSMENT

Customize the assessment process based on current needs. This process could focus on specific areas of concern such as intelligence (IQ) testing, adaptive ability, behavioral support, quality of life, functional ability, and/ or executive functioning.

Fee: Contact to discuss goals

personal discovery assessment

The decision to pursue a psychological assessment and receive a possible diagnosis can be complex. Therefore, Place of Mind offers an option to pursue an assessment at a discounted rate for discovery purposes only. The results are shared with the individual but a written report is not generated. The status and results are kept confidential and intended for personal use only.

Fee: Contact to discuss goals

groups

Connecting with others is a great way to learn about oneself, try things out, and get support and knowledge from others who may have gone or are going through similar situations. Knowing that all individuals learn and communicate in different ways, all groups are inclusive and safe and do not require any specific “way” of participating.

Groups are dependent on need and interest. Some possibilities are listed. Please contact us if there is a group you are looking for that is not listed here.

Emerging Adult Neurodivergents: “Adulting” is hard and can be even more difficult for neurodivergent individuals living in a neurotypical world. This group focuses on any and all issues related to adulting in a safe and supportive place.

Supporting Neurodivergent Youth: This group focuses on helping caregivers support neurodivergent children from a strength-based approach that helps children and families thrive.

Conscious Caregiving: This group takes a relational approach to caregiving that focuses on intra-personal (the relationship we have with ourselves) and inter-personal (the relationship we have with others) attunement. It can be helpful for supporting all children, especially those who experience behavioral difficulties.

Fee: Contact if interested

supportive consultatioN

Supportive consultation services can be helpful to engage and follow-through with feedback and recommendations from an assessment process. Services can also be provided independent of an assessment. All services are individualized and can include person centered support planning, connecting with providers and community resources, joining with schools, advocacy and empowerment, modifying environments, and training providers and support team members.

Fee: $100-$200/ hour (see payment information below)

professional consultation

There is a lack of professionals who feel competent and comfortable working with neurodivergent individuals as most academic training programs focus on the neurotypical population. Dr. Marx offers individual, group, and organizational consultation, training, and speaking on various topics related to neurodiversity and supporting neurodivergence.

Fee: Contact to discuss goals

What to Expect

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

PART 1: Information gathering

Dr. Marx will meet with you or you and your child and gather past and current information to develop an individualized testing protocol. Dr. Marx may also request releases to speak with current providers such as teachers, therapists, primary care providers, psychiatrists, etc.

PART 2: testing

Testing involves formal procedures conducted with the person being assessed as well as questionnaires filled out by an observer (usually parents and teachers) and may also involve direct observation in different settings. Testing may take place in one day or across multiple days.

Part 3: FEEDBACK

A verbal feedback session will be provided with regard to test findings and recommendations. You will also receive a written report with findings, recommendations, and a medical diagnosis, if applicable. A unique personal profile designed to appeal to visual learners will also be included to assist with support planning and communicating with team members.

SUPPORTIVE CONSULTATION PROCESS

The “one-size fits all” psychotherapy approaches are often not as helpful for neurodivergent individuals as they are based on neurotypical individuals. Traditional talk therapy is not always the best way to support mental, emotional, behavioral, and social health. This is why Place of Mind provides community-based supportive consultation, a more flexible, relational, and person-centered therapeutic process that focuses on helping people understand themselves, develop relationships, share their gifts, and find (or create) the places they belong.

Would it be helpful to have integrated mental health and neurodevelopmental expertise on your support team? Dr. Marx will start by joining with the team to develop an individualized consultation plan that includes support activities, timelines, and a fee schedule.

Consultation can be helpful for:

  • Engagement and follow-through with the feedback and recommendations from an assessment process

  • Person-centered support planning

  • Communicating with current providers and connecting with new providers

  • Exploring and connecting with community resources

  • Joining with schools around support needs and planning

  • Behavioral support

  • Self-advocacy and empowerment

  • Environmental modifications and adaptations to support neurodivergence

  • Training providers and support team members

  • Education and deeper understanding for facilitating mental health and wellness

Payment Information

INCLUDED IN THE FEE:

Assessment fees are a set price for the whole process and include the time and cost for travel (in Southern and Central WI) and all test administration as well as connecting with current supports such as teachers, therapists, psychiatrists, etc. Also included is the review of records, individual scoring and interpretation of tests, and time to prepare a customized evaluation report.

Consulting fees are billed per hour and include any services listed on the service plan (plan can be updated at any time to reflect current needs).

When Payment is Due:

For flat fee assessments, the first half of the payment is due during the first appointment. The remainder of the fee is due at the testing appointment. Fees are due at the beginning of the appointment and can be made by cash or credit card.

For hourly consulting fees, a payment schedule will be created during the first planning session based on each individual situation and funding source.

Cancellation Policy/Late Fees:

There is a 48 hours notice cancellation policy. If you are not available for a scheduled appointment and you did not cancel with more than 48 hours notice, or if you are more than 15 minutes late which requires further testing time, a prorated fee will be added to your final bill.

Insurance:

Adult and Children Long-Term Care and Mental Health Medicaid Waivers may be billed for some services.

Many insurance companies limit the type of psychological testing that can be done and require certain diagnoses to authorize payment; this does not allow for an individualized, flexible process that focuses on the needs and each individual situation. Therefore, Place of Mind does not bill medical insurance and focuses on providing a comprehensive and accurate assessment and helpful report. Upon request, Dr. Marx will provide you with a statement of your account and will create a "Superbill" using the correct billing codes so that you can try to get reimbursed for services. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to determine benefits.

Some questions you may want to ask your medical insurance carrier to determine benefits:

  • Is the cost of psychological testing covered?

  • Is there a deductible?

  • What portion will be reimbursed?

  • Is a referral needed from a primary care physician?

  • Is pre-authorization required?
